Personally I don’t like Valentine’s Day. When asked I usually give the reason that it’s because I’m single, over commercialized, etc. Normally I enjoy Valentine's Day, especially the chocolate and giving out Snoopy valentine's. I'm not entirely sure how to respond to this one. I guess first off it's that there are all different varieties of friends. In fact it is almost impossible to base reactions or expectations of one friendship on any other. Different people need and mean different things. Some people prefer to work through things alone, some people would rather have their friends distract them for a while than talk about things, some want to sit and eat ice cream and cry a few tears in the company of people who care about them.

I guess the question is what do you want out of the friendship. Do you have someone you can get along with and like spending time with? Is that enough for you? Or is it important to be needed for it to be a true friendship to you ( ... )

I agree with what you said. Since life is in a constant state of change and within that change you yourself are changing then it would be assumed that not everything is changing at the same speed.
One is either going to grow closer to or farther from a group of people, especially friends. If the commonalities in the relationship were weak or unbalanced to begin with, the moment stress is applied the cracks are going to be exposed. The responsibility then lies with the individuals involved to either fix the cracks or ignore them and let the damage continue till it's unrepairable.
Loose tongues certainly don't help any situation.
