Valentine's Day

Personally I don’t like Valentine’s Day. When asked I usually give the reason that it’s because I’m single, over commercialized, etc. Normally I enjoy Valentine's Day, especially the chocolate and giving out Snoopy valentine's. I suppose the real reason would have to do with what happened last year on Valentine’s Day.

My ex had called me and asked me to lunch at The Keg for 11 am, so I arrived on time and was seated, then waited for him to arrive. After waiting an hour and forty-five minutes he finally showed up. Apparently he had fallen asleep on the bus and then gotten lost trying to find the restaurant, the very restaurant he had chosen.
No card, no flowers, and no apology were given; I however had gotten him a valentine along with everyone else. He then advised we had to rush through the meal because he had made plans to hook up with his friends and had thought he would have time for both, but due to getting lost … (insert blah here).

So this year I planned to hide from the world and avoid the holiday like the plague. Wishful thinking on my part. Yesterday was one of those days when the unexpected, it will never happen in a million years, happened. I was asked out on Valentine’s Day, definitely a first. I declined, but I think I’ll reserve the option to revisit this at a later point in time. It registered about 5 seconds afterward what had taken place, I give the guy full snaps for bravery because it must have taken a lot of courage to ask me out on Valentine’s Day.
