Telling the truth is fine. Being an asshole is not. One does not need to be an asshole to tell the truth, in fact there is a very fine art to non-asshole-ish truthtelling. In my experience, alcohol is a significant inhibitor to that art. I cannot tell you the number of things I have said that were perfectly true but also perfectly tactless, ill-timed, and just generally all-round couched in the worst way possible when drinking. The list is epic, and would probably make entertaining reading if it weren't so embarassing. It does, however, serve as a good reminder about why drinking to any level of excess is just a bad thing in my world.
