I find it highly unlikely that lawyers should be a particularly old profession. Bureaucrats, yes. Legal representatives of one sort or another, sure. But lawyers? In the sense of the modern-day suit-and-tie American attorney? Surely you must be kidding. You think anyone had "legal rights" in the pre-modern period, or that anyone made a living of defending those rights? HA!
