In which I take an accidental swim in the Atlantic Ocean
I always reach a point in my travels where I'm just DONE. In a two week trip, this inevitably falls at the 1.5 week mark. It's the point where you realize that you're ready to just go home. The quieter life...
Time in Ireland is confusing. No, I don't mean the hours on the clock. Ireland is on the same latitude as Calgary, which means it's really far north. In the summer it stays light extremely late. The Cliffs of Insanity!
In the past two days I've: hiked a mountain, made a friend, fought gale-force winds at the top of the Cliffs of Insanity, been taunted by steampunk puppeteers, visited an island immortalized in a bloody and funny play, climbed up to a 2000 year old fort, and bought a sweater.

While in the teashop yesterday a lovely retired couple from Melbourne, Australia struck up a conversation with me. This morning I ran into them in the dining hall at Trinity College. They run a B&B in Melbourne and gave me their info, promising an extreme discount if I ever visit.

Here comes the rain again...
So the thing I've found about traveling alone is that people talk to you in a way they wouldn't (I assume) if you were traveling with others. Random people in random places will strike up a conversation. I assume it's because I look unthreatening, or lonely. This has happened to me twice in the past 24 hours. I have found heaven...
Every so often I realize something completely obvious. Traveling is boring. Not "travel"--going somewhere that isn't home, but "traveling"--the actual getting there part. I wish I could say this was a result of my 3-leg journey (burbank to dallas, dallas to chicago, chicago to dublin) or the 3 hour delay I suffered in Chicago when all I wanted ( Read more... ) -
Almost on my way
My flight is in 8 hours and I have an insane amount to do before then. Will I sleep tonight? I'm guessing not.
This is going to be a new way to log my travels. Hope that it creates new ways to share my adventures with the people I love. Feel free to comment on my stories and share the joy.
