Please - pimp my poll? (the angst-queen run-off)

Nov 11, 2006 11:56

So, in honor of liviapenn's post requesting Really epic hurt-comfort-- recs?, a totally subjective poll asking the eternal question, "In [fill-in-blank fandom] fanfic, who *suffers* better?!" Possible fandoms are limited to my biggest fandoms because I don't know who the angst!queens are in other fandoms; possible responses are kinda skewed because I'm a ( Read more... )

Nobody suffers better than Remus in fanfic, because nobody suffers better than him in canon.

I was just coming to comment on my choice of Remus suffering the best in Harry Potter. In fact the only time in canon that I think someone approached Remus' level of suffering was Neville visiting his parents in OoTP.

Oh, Neville... *squishes him* Poor baby!

As I explained to musesfool, I almost added Remus, but I would've forgotten Neville. Also, the question is who suffers best in fanfic and there's just not enough Neville fic to compete with the others.

Anyway, thanks for stopping by!

I came >this< close to adding Remus to the HP section. But somehow, I felt if I added Remus, I needed to add Sirius too, and things were getting long already and I was already feeling guilty about the small number of female characters and~

Yeah. Noted. I think I almost agree, but people really pile it on Snape and then he suffers in lots of silence; all those Cruci-whatsis (haven't been much HP lately, have forgetten how to spell that) curses, and the agony of the Dark Mark, and his guilt over the Potters' deaths, and his background of abuse, and I'm a pathetic mewling Snape lover and have just read more fic with Snape than any of the others (including Remus). He's my HP Little Black Dress Robes character.

Cool! Thanks for playing.

See, I *meant* to add a "not my fandom" choice, in fact, I thought I did, but I must have messed up the formatting somehow. *le sigh*

*hugs*

Since these aren't my fandoms, really, I voted for who I think fandom decides suffers better. I'm surprised Jim's ahead of Blair...

I meant to have a "not my fandom" option as well as a "nominate *your* fandom/angst!queen" option, but time caught up on me and in my rush to finish I forgot. Oh well ( ... )

Jim has the combination of "actually feels pain & suffering more strongly than anybody in any fandom" with "bottled-up repression providing no outlet for his suffering". This means he's a wonderful man-mountain of angst & torment -- I think he might be the all-fandom winner.

Tom Paris.

It seems he has lots of opportunities to suffer in fic.

*hee*

This was harder than it looked, as I wasn't certain whether you were looking for who we perceive to be the biggest angst!queen in each fandom, or who we prefer!! That said, I went for perceive rather than preference.

So I was a little surprised that Methos is ahead of Duncan at this stage. Why? Like your rationalisation of The Jim Blair debate, Methos gets whomped on with great abandon, especially if Kronos is in the picture, but it is Duncan who suffers! Is tied in emotional knots, again has his illusions on life kicked the shit out of, and spends a great deal of time in fanfic pouting over how Methos could have done that to him... *g*

The same can be said, in my opinion, over the Xander Spike question.
