He grinned again, cold and calculating, leaning close to meet her eyes. She wished that he had kept them hidden, spared her their emptiness.
Made me shiver a bit. She wanting to think that he's being tender with her, he wanting her to think anything but.

The Cove would definitely be a source of splinters, as is love. Glad you found a fit with canon; AWE gave us so little to go on, but I can't see them keeping their distance. I wanted to make it fit with the Sympathy 'verse as well, as best I could - hence the absence of a kiss.
Thanks so much for the quick mod approval and the lovely feedback ♥

Darkness and angst = much <3! ;)
Loved the splinters (a little blood and little pain is always enjoyable ;)), and the lack of kissing -- not so much deep and intimate love now but more like using each other, in a way -- makes sense, right before the battle and so on... Lovely work!

They both want something the other can't give, not completely, not yet. Not so much using as battling their demons, reaching for what they want and can't acknowledge, at least not to each other.
I do love darkness and angst :-)

That's about what I tried to convey, didn't mean the 'using' as 'abusing', just for to satisfy a momentary lust, but 'using' to gain some understanding into... something... lol, that's what you get when posting first thing in the morning, before coffee and in a foreign language!
'Tis such a joy to read not only your stories but the comments -- I feel I need to watch the movies yet another 10+ times each to gain such a deep insight into their heads! And, like someone else commented, I <3 you for making Jack masculine -- he's a _pirate_, goddamnit, not all fluff and inebriated jokes! ;)

Yes! That's exactly what they're doing. They don't have the language and perhaps the courage for anything else at that moment - they're using sex, their bodies, to reach for resolution. And hey, it's J/E *g*
I'm continually amazed by people who are fluent in English as a second language, and who can write well in it. No worries there :-)
And yeah, masculine!Jack - he is a pirate, and he can be dangerous, and funny, and literate, and foolish; all the things men are, and the things that make Jack so fascinating. Thanks again, love ♥

“Good - I owe you a bit of pain.”
Oh yes. She definitely deserved that one. What incredibly sharp words she has. Tongue of Wounding +2 1/2
No wonder Jack didn't teach her "forgive" him in that particular way...
‘Twas something else you killed that day, and a thing of little consequence, at that.
This story wouldn't happened to be followed up by another entitled "A Thing of Little Consequence", would it?
*g*
What?
“No. But I won’t take what isn’t mine - won’t curse myself with that.”
That sentence alone holds enough irony to cast 32 cannons. This fic rocks. And what a great last line.
He had not kissed her, not once; without the mercy of another sunrise, she would always be sorry for that.Even with said sunrise, I bet she felt a bit of a slap, what with once being quite enough (and as you deftly included, never with his instigation). I know she's trying for absolution, but it seems to me the best these two can hope for is ( ... )

I hear the thumping of rogue plot bunnies.

Thank you! Worth all the hours of writing, for that one comment :-) They don't belong to each other here, and neither of them sees any hope for that.

Oh, yeah. The look in both their eyes during that moment in AWE seemed to fit with this fic. As you know, I do see them getting past the bitterness, but I wanted to leave this story open to all the alternatives.
Thanks so much for such lovely feedback - it's greatly appreciated. I may have to catch that plot bunny *g*

Pirates! I guess there is honor amongst thieves after all. *g*

Sure. Much easier to forgive the other than the self, it would seem. And I think they'll get over that eventually, too.
I may have to catch that plot bunny *g*
Oh, by all means! *Squee!*
"What, behind the rabbit?"
"It *is* the rabbit!"

Heee *g* Not sure where that fic will fit given canon and the Sympathy 'verse, but I'm thinking it's not so much the plot that matters to that particular bunny :-)
It is much easier to forgive someone else rather than one's self, which requires both the curse of self-awareness and the blessing of compassion, and a good clear mirror.

Thank you so much for writing something inspired by that the little audio clip that I have played over and over and over again. You have no idea how many times that I thought I was crazy for hearing something different in it; something special. Oh, wow! You have no idea what that means to my little Sparrabeth-loving soul. I am honestly touched.
I will be getting back to you. I just had to come here and tell you that at the moment, I am incapable of commenting. You've moved me to loss of ability to form words.

Looking forward to your actual words on the subject *g*

Thank you so much!
This story would really explain the haunted look Jack had at the end of the movie when Lizzy leaves to go to Will
I've always believed that Jack fell in love, and that Elizabeth didn't understand that until the end of AWE - that she believed it was simply about lust for him, a continuation of their game.
Really appreciate the feedback, as always ♥
