Summary: She has no idea why he loves her so much, but she’s thankful with every breath she takes.
She was on her knees at his feet. Her pretty face was resting on his knee as he absentmindedly stroked her hair. He could feel her tears soaking into the fabric of his slacks. He gently shushed her, tracing the wet path her tears left down her upturned cheek. Wiping it away, her saw her vibrantly colored lips turn up at the gesture.
She rubbed her face against his knee, nuzzling him. Her body was shaking slightly with silent sobs. “Please.” She was whispering over and over again. “Please forgive me.”
Gripping her chin gently, he turned her face, lifting it so he could look into her eyes. “I will always forgive you,” he assured her, hoping a smile would make certain to her that he meant his words. He leaned down, gently pressing a light kiss to her lips.
Her lips met his just as soft and gentle, she captured his face in her hands. She stroked his face, running her thumb over his cheekbone. “Why?” her next whisper surprised him.
“Why what?” he asked, unsure what she was asking.
She sniffed, her eyes were still glistening with tears but they did not fall, “Why do you forgive me so easily?” she asked.
He smiled again, “Because I love you,” his simple answer left her in tears again, that was always his answer after their meaningless fights. It never failed to touch her, his sincerity and devotion to her was something she had never experienced before. `
“You shouldn’t love me, I don’t deserve it, I don’t deserve you,” she insisted, he was once again wiping away the trail down her cheek.
Even as she cried she was still breathtaking, “You do, you always will. Have you ever heard the old proverb love me when I least deserve it, because that's when I really need it?” he asked, she shook her head.
“No, but I see you’re quoting it for a reason,” she sniffed; he nodded, gathering her hair and brushing it back. He leaned down, letting his lips meet hers again. It was soft, deep, cherishing, when it broke, he heard her breathe out a relieved sigh. “I love you.”
He smiled brightly, “I love hearing you say that,” he told her, her returned his smile.
“I have something else you’re going to love to hear…” she said, he helped her up; he helped her settle into his lap. Once settled in, she buried her face into his neck.
He nuzzled her gently, “What would that be?” he asked, curious, which only grew as she pulled away. A full, bright smile on her lips told him it would be something good.
“I think I’m pregnant.”
She laughed as his mouth dropped, a surprised gasp leaving his mouth. “Are you sure?” he asked, she nodded.
“I’ve never, never been late. So I’m thinking yes, yes I am. You’re going to be a Father,” she cooed, his lips meeting hers in a passionately.
He stood; taking her with him, spinning her around, “I’m going to be a Dad!” the joy in his voice was the most comforting thing. In that moment, nothing mattered except the two of them and the life inside her.
