Numb3rs/Moonlight Fusion Fic Series: This Isn't Twilight and He Doesn't Sparkle

I loved Moonlight from the first episode (Alex O'Laughlin is sex on legs, and don't even get me started on the delicious Jason Dohring.). But it wasn't just because of AO'L and JD that I loved the show (nope. nuh-uh. not at all.). I've always had a great fascination with vampires; to the point where I even read Bram Stoker's Dracula (I have it in a leather-bound edition…is that too geeky?). So a whole show built on the mythology of vampires was more than I was capable of resisting.

What I always liked about Moonlight was the fresh take on the traditional mythology. Garlic? Nice on a pizza. Crosses? Pretty jewelry. Stakes? Well, they can immobilize a vamp, but not kill him. It took everything we thought we knew about vampires and turned it on its head. It was like finding out that (Spoiler Alert!) Santa Claus isn't a real person. I still believe in the person of Santa Claus as a representation of the spirit of Christmas, but I know now where all the presents come from. Not disappointing but liberating, because now I can choose to believe in something real. Same thing with Moonlight: the legends are nice, but getting the "true story" was incredibly cool.
I was just as disappointed as the rest when the show was cancelled. I've read a lot of good Moonlight fanfiction since then (I've read a lot of bad Moonlight fanfiction, too, but that's a conversation for another time), but it never occurred to me to write Moonlight fanfiction myself, to tell the truth. Then, I got involved in the Numb3rs fandom, and my eyes were opened to a whole lot of ideas I'd never considered before.
So, the genesis of this idea came as a result of reading some very interesting fusion stories written by some of the Numb3rs authors on LJ. I'd never even thought of taking a set of characters from one fandom and dropping them into the mythology and setting of another show. So, that horizon's been broadened big time, and these stories are the result. I get to combine two of my favorite fandoms, and I get to write about one of my favorite kinks. It's win-win for me!
This idea has also spawned multiple stories. The series post for this is called This Isn't Twilight and He Doesn't Sparkle, because that was, hands down, my favorite line in The War At Home. I'd also like to write the whole story that inspired The War At Home at some point. It's just a matter of finding the time and laying out the story I want to tell. As for other stories set in this 'verse, I may write more because I just love it so damned much.
