Regret vs. Mistake

Aug 01, 2004 10:41

This is my view on regrets, they're non-existant. I don't understand how it's possible to regret an action taken, if at the time that you did something, a little part of you had to have somewhat been okay with what you were doing.. unless you are forced to do something and have no way to stop it, whatsoever, can it be a regret.. but this is where ( Read more... )

I'm a little bit confused, but let me try to figure this out. Do you mean that an action could be a mistake, but you really don't regret doing it, even though you know it was a mistake? Maybe a regret would be something that you would not do again, if you had a chance to re-live a time in your life.

If you think about it, regret vs. mistake doesn't really make any difference. Just move on and put any mistakes/regrets behind you cause life is all about change, anyways.

And how could caring about someone, whether it works out or not, be a mistake? If you really, really care about someone other than yourself, doesn't that make you a winner whether anything comes of it?

Plus, don't mistakes help us grow as people? Maybe. Hope I haven't confused you more than you confused me!

This is a totally insightful live journal comment anonymous.. congrats! You make good points. I think I just meant that I don't really regret anything I've done, it's just looking back later, things became mistakes due to other things. It was a totally confusing entry I guess, but you did a good job of picking it apart. Life is completely all about change... it happens all the time.

You regret mistakes. Regret isn't something elusive or something that could be proven wrong, it's a feeling.. so there are such things as regrets. I'm going to make a huge leap here and say that those that feel no regret are either...
-Blind to their own actions and are therefore actually unacceptant of change... because regrets force change.
-People that have done nothing regrettable ( Never has their been such a person)

Mistakes you made are regrets...

No way do we regret every mistake we make. Maybe we won't know it's a mistake until later when we have time to think about it.
What happens 10 years from now when you think back on whatever happened. Maybe by then no one would think it was a mistake or wouldn't even think about it because who cares by then. Move on with your life and don't worry about any mistake because you can't change what you've done. Just try to use the experience to make you smarter in the future.
What good does beating yourself up about anything do?
