Application - Mistress Esmeralda "Granny" Weatherwax

Well. This was certainly not what she was expecting to see when she turned around. It seemed as though someone had replaced the inside of her cottage with...well. She's not exactly sure what this is ( Read more... )

Upon hearing her name, and tone and...well, everything, Bernard grinned. As in grinned wider than that damn cat which did all the questioning. Because Bernard might know who Susan Sto Helit was and appreciate all that, but Granny Weatherwax? Was his snarky, cynical hero(ine).

For the first time in his life, he got up, dashed to his feet and went to say hello to another human being. Or something equivalent. "Yeah, but aren't vampires freezing cold to begin with? Tends to be their mode of operation." He knew she'd taken that word the wrong way, but one didn't correct Granny Weatherwax. "Bernard Black, yes, we're stuck here, very sorry, there's nothing vaguely exciting here apart from lurid cartoons, neverending food and entirely disturbing ducks. Oh, and the world is round."

((Note. a) GRANNY WEATHERWAX, eeeee. b) yes, Bernard does know discworld is fictional, but he's avoiding messing with the fabric of the universe and telling any of them. c) He is entirely fanboying Granny Weatherwax, because if Bernard is going to fanboy anyone ( ... )

Granny would have been put off by the man in front of her that was grinning like an idiot, but she had seen a similar look on Shawn Ogg enough times to not think anything of it.

"Of course the world is round. Always has been. Perfectly good shape for a world, is a circle." After all, the Disc was round. Especially when viewed from above.

Bernard pauses and shakes his head, toning the grin down a bit, complete with flop of hair across his eyes, "No, no...um, more sphere round. You're not on the Discworld any more, you're in Disneyland." Bernard wouldn't go any further into explaining why he knew she was from Discworld, as there would be deep consequences to that, he was sure. "And, to be quite honest, if you're reasonably sane, you'll hate it."

Granny nodded, feigning understanding. She knew very little about Astronomy (although she certainly wasn't going to let on that that was the case.), so if he said the world was a ball who was she to say he was wrong.

Only...

"How do they keep it on the turtle?"

Rukia approaches, only a bit slowly. She isn't quite sure how to address this woman, but there's something about her that the shinigami can't help be respect.

"Hello. Welcome to Disneyland." She bows slightly. "My name is Rukia Kuchiki."

Granny gives a very slight nod of the head in return. At least she seemed to have found another witch. "What's a Disneyland?"

((Note: All witches, in Discworld, bow instead of curtsy, hence Granny's confusion))

"Disneyland is..." Rukia pauses, trying to remember how it had been explained to her. "It's a human amusement park on planet Earth, during the 20th and 21st centuries." It was impossible to know why this woman didn't know about Disneyland, so she had to cover all the bases. Of course, she didn't want to be overwhelming with new information either. "At least, it's supposed to be on Earth. This particular imitation of it seems to be... nowhere at all."

((Oooh, I see! I really have to get around to reading Discworld one of these days.))

"A place can't be nowhere. Or else how would it be here?"

"Are you really a witch?" Ash asks. He's grinning excitedly, because he sees no reason not to take Granny at face value, but a witch would be kind of cool.

Granny frowns. "Can't you see the hat?"

Reply

palletkid November 7 2007, 22:13:15 UTC
Well, Ash sure felt dumb. Of course she was a witch, if she was wearing a witch hat.

"I'm Ash! From Pallet Town! I never met a real witch before except a ghost that was just pretending!"

Granny had never heard of Pallet. Probably somewhere foreign. "Ain't never heard of a ghost witch." It seemed to Granny that the dead using magic could set a dangerous precedent.

((Heh. I actually forgot the icon didn't have a hat. Because I'm awesome like that. But yes, she is wearing one . XD))

People didn't go around calling themselves witches in Sunshine's world unless they wanted to get lynched the first time something went wrong. She couldn't help being interested, so she wrapped up a few chocolate chip cookies in a napkin and made her way to the gates.

"You're a witch?" she asked.

Granny glared at Sunshine. She still didn't know where she was, but the people there didn't seem to respect the hat. Well, thought Granny, they'll just hafta learn "I am that."

The glare was pretty impressive. Sunshine had the comfort of standing in direct sunlight, though, which was charging her up like a battery with magical power, or - more accurately - like a tree photosynthesizing, so she was more curious than cowed. She offered the cookies.

"What kind of magic do you do? As a specialty, I mean?"

Granny ignore the cookies. Not rudely, but it was clear that she, at least at the moment, was not interested in them.

"I do what needs to be done."

Katou, right before he had come here, had wished on a star for a light for his cigarette, and to see Kira again, and he gotten both of them.

"What makes you think he wouldn't want what he got?" he asked.

Granny's face did something which might, by one incapable of determining emotion, be called a smile. Witches had a way of making people wish carelessly.

"Wishes catch up to you, eventually," was all she said.

"Oh will they?" he asked, cocking an eyebrow. "They haven't yet."
