Max may have been a quick study, but a single afternoon wasn't enough to give him a very strong idea of precisely how to hoist a sail in a hurry. "I pull this one, right?" he asked hurriedly as he grabbed what he thought 'Dite meant by 'the other line'.

"Yes, that one! And not too hard!" She grabbed tighter to the boat as the waves from the oncoming ship made the sea rise and fall. "Careful! If you rock the boat right now . . . "
She didn't say what could happen. It seemed pretty obvious from the way the boat was swaying.

"I'm doing my best," he promised her. It sure would have been nice to be one of those rare furycrafters skilled at manipulating the ocean. That would save them a lot of work.
Max pulled on the line, trying to get the sail into position quickly, but without moving too much or pulling to hard. Except that he still wasn't used to any of this so he did both.

Dinah frowned, getting up to watch the listing boat, wondering if the passengers needed help? She shaded her eyes, trying to pick out the people, see if they were managing....
