"Perfect timing."
Even in the low murmur it came out as, the sarcasm in Jill's voice was obvious. It always seemed like guns jammed at the worst possible moment; such was her luck, anyway. A few feet away, the last faded whisper of a defeated Mannequin was lost to the air, taking with it the echoes of its dying cry. It had been the only life present in this place, she had been glad to discover, although its speed in attacking her had made only one necessary. A close call, but her gun jamming had, at least, saved her another bullet, and Jill couldn't complain about hand-to-hand given her improved state. She still looked like a battered mess, considering the bloodstains and cuts that her suit still carried, but the body beneath was in as good a shape as it had ever been. The first favor Chaos had done for her.
Jill glanced again around the cavernous room as she ejected the Beretta's magazine, her gaze curious. An old castle, the stuff of kid's movies and nightmares, complete with the unsettling atmosphere and threatening shadows along the walls.
...And somewhat familiar. She wrinkled her nose slightly at the thought; she and Wesker had agreed on very few things, one being that Ozwell E. Spencer had possessed a ridiculous imagination and an arrogant taste. This area brought back memories of the Arklay Mansion, the Spencer Estate--context notwithstanding, she wouldn't have been too surprised if a zombie suddenly shambled out of the darkness.
She wiped the clip on her thigh distractedly--despite having cleaned her gun just this afternoon, as she did nearly every day now--before clicking it back into place. Nearly a month since the last battle. There'd been only a little more time between the first and second rounds, meaning their current resting time was probably drawing to a close. That was why, despite normally being wary of going into non-Chaos territory alone, Jill had ventured to abandon her recent idleness and journey out here for a while.
Might as well enjoy the semblance of freedom while it lasted.
