Kain had mentioned that he would join Terra eventually, so he arrived in the area, immediately looking for her. It had felt like too long since they'd trained together, and he looked forward to that opportunity now.

But he was surprised by the sight that greeted him. There was Terra, but instead of fighting mannequins, she appeared to be... holding something...? From a distance it was hard to tell what exactly. Kain approached warily, glancing around to be sure that they were alone for now.

"Terra...?"

Terra was so lost in thought that she didn't hear her name called for a moment. She squeezed her moogle companion gently, staring off and brooding. Yet, Kain's voice filtered through that haze and she stiffened, glancing over.

"What-- ....oh! Hello, Kain." She relaxed again, feeling somewhat foolish. If she had been paying as much attention to her surroundings as she ought to have been, there would have been no need to panic.

"Is everything... How are you?" Kain asked the question stiffly and awkwardly. He was clearly not accustomed to asking such things, and also wondered if perhaps he was intruding, a little bit. They may have planned to meet here, but now he wondered if she would prefer to be left alone.

The moogle peered at Kain curiously while Terra answered. She did manage to smile for him, though given her mood, it was understandably lacking. "I'm fine. I mean...I should be used to people I know going away by now, shouldn't I?"

She felt foolish the moment that question slipped from her lips. There were more important things at stake, and here she was, moping about people who were free of the conflict. It would be selfish to want them back. And...she didn't like appearing weak in front of Kain anyway, even if he did understand more than most people.

But Kain isn't bothered by it, nor does he think her weak. He looks at her for a moment and then sighs. "...I don't think it's ever possible to get used to it. Or to stop wishing them back, despite... it being better that they're back home." He wouldn't have understood where Terra was coming from were it not for Toothless... Even though he was better about the dragon's disappearance, there would always be some part of him that missed his friend. "It's worse... when they're not from your world. It's not as if there's a chance you could see them if you went home, after all..."

He stopped, realizing how that sounded. "My apologies. I didn't mean to sound so pessimistic..."

Terra shook her head, resting her chin on the moogles large pom-pom. "You didn't say anything that I wasn't already thinking. It's not actually any worse hearing it aloud than just in my head. At least you already know what it's like."

She sighed, falling silent for a moment. When she spoke up, her voice was a touch softer. "...I'd at least have liked to have said goodbye, like before."

Kain understood that feeling as well, since he'd never had a chance to bid Tooth goodbye, either. He looked down at the ground. "Having no warning is the worst part." But then he gave Terra a curious glance. "...Like before? What do you mean?

Terra squeezed her moogle friend gently, staring off. After a moment, she replied. "After we defeated Chaos, we were transported to this field. One by one, our crystals began to glow. We had a few moments to say some parting words and then...we vanished, to return to our own worlds. Or at least, that was what was supposed to happen...."

"Is that what will really happen to us after this upcoming battle, do you think...?" Kain knew that it was essential that he return home. He had a quest to fulfill on Mount Ordeals. So why was he less than enthused by the idea? It wasn't like he had any reason to want to stay here...

...or did he?

Kain looked down, filled with uncertainty. "Or... I suppose that will happen to the winning side, unless we truly manage a tie between us."

Terra dismissed her moogle and stood, moving over next to Kain. After a moment's hesitation, she reached out and rested a gentle hand on his arm. "I don't know what's supposed to happen, this time...but I'll do whatever I can to help us all go home. I promised to help, didn't I? We'll just have to hold onto that, and be ready to act when it's time."

Kain sighed. "I hope we can. If not, I..." Well, he wasn't too sure what he wanted to say to her. He clenched and unclenched his fists nervously. "...Never mind... I just... I know that it's important that I return, that everyone returns... but... Sometimes I'm not entirely sure that I want to anymore."

That statement startled Terra, especially considering what he had told her earlier. She couldn't help but stare, perplexed...and curious. "What do you mean? I thought you wanted -needed- to return, to that mountain. It holds your redemption, doesn't it? So...why are you not certain?"

"I'm not sure." Kain didn't even know why he'd just thought or said that, but it had to do with... something about this place? He didn't know. Obviously it was always because of Tooth that he'd have wanted to stay before, but now... He glanced at Terra. "...I..." He couldn't make himself say it, though it was slowly forming in his thoughts.

If Kain's goal was to confuse Terra, he was succeeding marvelously. She didn't expect him to confide everything to her, but he had brought it up. Did that mean he wanted to talk about it, or...she was stumped, uncertain whether to gently prod or if that was even welcomed.

"...yes?"

"..."

Confiding in general was hard for Kain, and he was quiet for a while while he gathered his thoughts. It wasn't hard to admit this sort of thing when it came to a dragon, so couldn't he do this for her?

"Well, I... would miss you."

"You...." For a moment, a wide-eyed Terra wasn't certain she heard him right. He was reluctant to return to his own world because he would miss her? She hadn't even thought that possible, assuming there was another reason behind it.

And yet...it was nice to hear. She couldn't help but smile a little, once that shock began to wear off. "Thank you, Kain. That's very kind of you to say. And...." She stared downward, also needing a moment to gather her words. "I...would miss you, too."
