[Out on the quad under the shine of the day's brilliant sunlight, Dr. Facilier has set up his neat little card table once more. This time another hand-painted sign is displayed on the sandwich board beside him: Anti-Strangeling Charms it reads, beside it a crude painting of a lanky humanoid figure with a red circle and line crossing it out. Occasional curiousity lead Axel to see Facilier's little kiosk and wonder exactly what the hell is going on.

"Is your paycheck that small you have to find alternative income?"

[Facilier's smile cools, but he takes the jab at his income in stride.]

Costs somethin' t'make 'em, don't it? Nothin' wrong with makin' a bit of profit from the services I provide outside a' my primary occupation.

I suppose not if these things actually will get you something.

[Axel seems doubtful that they will though. Not many people have had a good impression of voodoo from what he could tell.]

I can only hope. [Facilier places a hand on his chest in a gesture of sincerity.] Bein' as familiar with the Mist's effects as I am, these'll prove a strong talisman against the Strangelings, should anythin' unfortunate befall us anytime soon, o'course.

[Young Jane hobbles over to the stand on crutches, due to spraining her ankle during the recent pirate attack on the school. A look of desperate hope appears on her face when she sees the good (as far as she knows) doctor's charms.]

I'd gladly like to buy a charm, sir. Two-- n-no, three in fact. How much do they cost?

Wonderful! Plannin' t'protect the whole family, eh? Wise choice. Let's say... seven pounds each? [He gives her a wink.] I charge ten for most, but since you're bein' such a responsible little girl an' all, I'll give y'all a discount.

Oh my. That's... still quite expensive.

I can buy only two right now. Could you possibly hold onto the last one for me until I have the money..? P-please, sir?

[Lottie was heading over to her dance studio; her tap shoes had recently arrived in the mail, and she wanted to start breaking them in. In fact, she had been so eager, she had put them on before leaving her room.

But lo and behold, there's Facilier up to no good once again. She better check in, just in case any of her friends unknowingly got duped. So over she clickity clacks.]

And jus' what sort of wool are you pullin' ovah peoples' eyes this time, Shadowman?

[Facilier looks shocked.] Why o'course they work! Y'all got no reason to believe they don', do ya? Your curse works jus' fine, don't it?

[Aladdin, reading in the shade of a tree on the other side of the quad, might not have noticed Facilier's display yet, but Abu certainly had. The hairy little thief couldn't help himself. His curiosity and his eye for shiny objects of any sort had got the better of him.

Stealthily, but possibly not stealthily enough to avoid the attention of the good doctor, the monkey crept up the side of the table and reached out a paw.]

Hey! [Facilier spots Abu at once and raps the monkey on the head with his cane.] Paws off, y'hear?

[As Abu made a noise that sounded rather like 'who, me?', Aladdin jumped to his feet to grab his friend before he could cause any more trouble.]

Abu!

[He gave Facilier a sheepish smile.]

I'm sorry about him. He can't help himself.

[Facilier gives the monkey a disapproving glare, then relents. No harm done... provided none of his stock is missing.]

Thievin' instincts, huh? I'll be careful 'round this little guy.

[Well, that was certainly an interesting sight to wake up to.

Elisa crossed the quad to get a closer look, torn between curiousity and wariness. It was her job to protect - or try to protect, against increasingly impossible odds - the people of the Academy from any danger that threatened them. Including seemingly benevolent staff members and their magic jewellery.]

Interesting idea.

Why thank you, Ms. Maza! I thought it rather topical, given the dark days we've been havin'. [Even though it's been brilliantly sunny and even the news report said there had been no recent Mist activity...]

Dark days? I must have missed them. It's been pretty quiet lately.

[Does he know something that she does?]

[That's a big fat "certainly not" when it comes to knowing anything Elisa doesn't, though he definitely doesn't make it clear in the way he speaks. Ever the salesman!]

Ahh, lately, o'course, but all that could change in an instant, am I right? Best t'be prepared, I always say.
