How does this community work, exactly?
This community challenges you in various ways to make 100 Disney icons, which you can share with the rest of the community. This post has the information you need to do a traditional-style (fixed-deadline) claim. For information on doing a monthly claim, see
this post.
How does the typical claim work?
First,
join the community. Then check the
current claims list, and if the claim you want isn't being done by someone else, you can request it. If you're approved for the claim, you will be given posting access in the community so that you can post your icons. You will also be assigned an ending date and tags to use. When you have completed a challenge, leave a comment on the
completed claims post and your finished claim will be added. If you need to ask for an extension, you may do so.
What are the different 100-icon challenges?
The normal way to complete the 100 icons involves making 50 themed icons and 50 artist's choice icons (icons that are entirely up to you). The 50 themes are listed over
here. We have also added several other types of 100-icon challenges. Here are the four we have so far:

What are the different claim categories?
These are the main claim categories as used in the community tags:
- Character: This is for single-character claims such as Jane Porter or Prince Eric
- Duo: This category is for pals like Timon & Pumbaa or Mushu & Mulan
- Group: A collection of related characters (for instance, Disney Princesses, all Disney cats, animals from The Little Mermaid, etc.)
- Movie: The most common type of claim -- your Disney movie of choice
- Movie Group: Any claim that involves a collection of related movies. The most common type is a general Disney claim, where you can icon anything Disney
- Other: Any claims with a miscellaneous, less tangible theme (e.g. shows at Disney parks, live action references, characters drawn by the same artist, Disney quotes, etc.)
- Pairing: This category is for romantic couples, such as Belle and Beast
- Park: Claims focused on one or more of the parks
- TV: This category is for the Disney TV series and cartoons
Don't worry too much about getting the category right. Just be descriptive enough so that the mods can puzzle out what tag to give you. For example, it's important to specify if you want to do Mulan (movie) or Mulan (character).
What if the claim I want is already on the current claims list?
If someone is already doing the claim you want for a fixed-deadline challenge, you will have to wait until the person who has it is finished or the claim expires until you can make that claim. Note, however, that fixed-deadline claims and monthly claims are tracked separately, so if it has only been claimed on the monthly list, you may still do a fixed-deadline claim for that topic.
How many claims can I have going on at once?
You may only have one claim going on at a time, regardless of whether it's a fixed-deadline claim or a monthly claim, with one exception: even if you've already signed up for a claim that requires you to make 100 icons, you can also be part of up to one 50-50 claim as well. If you're not working on a full 100-icon claim, you can have up to two different 50-50 claims at a time.
Do I have to wait the three months to finish my claim?
Nope, you may finish your claim at any time within the three month time period.
Do I have to tag my posts?
Yes, please tag your posts when you post your icon batches. There is also a tags mod in charge of organizing and cleaning up tags, but we appreciate it if you help us out by tagging your own posts.
What tags do I use?
Your tags are assigned to you when you make your claim request. The tags consist of a claim tag of the form "claim category: your claim topic" and a username tag of the form "user: your_username". In addition, when you post your final batch of icons, use the "!complete" tag. For example:» An in-progress movie claim
movie: beauty and the beast, user: chacusha
» A finished character claim
!complete, character: belle, user: lil_hippie_chic
When you do a 50-50 claim, be sure to use the tags for BOTH users working on the claim. There are also tags for the special challenges. For example:
» A 50-50 movie claim
[50-50], movie: cinderella, user: chacusha, user: lil_hippie_chic
» An alternate theme set claim
[alternate theme set], !complete, group: disney animals, user: lil_hippie_chic
What's the minimum amount of new icons I need in a batch of icons?
Around 5 icons is the minimum. Typical posts are usually 10-25 icons. Some people post many icons at a time, some people spread them out among many posts. It's up to you, but avoid making many small posts frequently (i.e. multiple posts in a single day). If you're doing a 50-50, each post must contain new icons from BOTH iconmakers. Be sure to communicate before posting.
How many teaser (preview) icons can I have on my post?
Up to three. For a 50-50, up to three per person (so a total of six).
I see weekly theme posts in the community. Am I allowed to use those themes for my 100 icons even if I'm not doing a monthly theme?
Yes. An icon you make from a weekly theme can be placed in your table wherever it fits. For example, you can ALWAYS use icons made for weekly themes as Artist's Choice icons in your table. In addition, let's say you made an icon for a prompt that came up in the weekly theme posts, "Favorite Song Sequence". The icon you end up making turned out very blue. You could use it for theme #039 if you happened to be doing the
default challenge, or for theme #045 if you were working on the
technical table. However, you cannot replace an existing theme in the table you're using with one from the theme posts.
I need more than three months; can I request an extension?
Yes, you can, over at the
current claims post. Extensions are given in one-month increments unless you specify otherwise.
How many extensions can I get for a claim?
You can have three months of extensions per year, split amongst all of your claims. The exception here is that a 50-50 claim can only be extended by one month max, regardless of how much extension time the makers have left.
What happens if I don't complete a claim?
If you don't complete a claim, and don't request an extension, at the expiration date of the claim it will be considered up for grabs.
I've realized I won't be able to finish my claim. Can I give it up?
Yes, just leave a comment in the
current claims post and we will make sure the claim is then open for use again.
If doing a romantic pairing or a duo, do I have to include both people in all icons?
No, you don't, because it can be difficult to come up with 100 icons of both characters. You can have icons of each character on their own, as long as the pairing/duo theme is apparent in your set of icons.
Can I re-request a claim that expired? When I claim it again, do I have to start a new set of 100 icons entirely?
You can reclaim a topic that you didn't finish, as long as no one else has it at that time. You do not have to make an entirely new set of icons -- you can use the ones you already made, but avoid making all of the icons at your own pace over a long period of time when you don't possess the claim/deadline, since the time limit is half the fun.
Can I reclaim a topic that I claimed and completed in the past?
Yep, that's perfectly fine, especially since people's icon-making style evolves over time.
How do I format the icons in a table?
Some people have donated table codes, which can be found
here. There are also tons of table generators out there including
accio.nu's table generator,
this simple table generator, or
angelamaria's table generator.
