Got a tablet the other day. Still poking around at it, but I did manage to install Firefox, plus a couple other APKs I found on https://f-droid.org/ onto it at least

Got the Firefox APK from here, I'd hope their own site would be safe...
Found five different flavors of VLC for Android here the other day, haven't tried them yet but I'm pretty sure the one I need is the "Android (Cortex-A8 with NEON)" one... I'd have to know what device you have to know which CPU/version you'd need. (Yet again, from their own site
