Got a tablet the other day. Still poking around at it, but I did manage to install Firefox, plus a couple other APKs I found on https://f-droid.org/ onto it at least ( Read more... )

Got the Firefox APK from here, I'd hope their own site would be safe...

Found five different flavors of VLC for Android here the other day, haven't tried them yet but I'm pretty sure the one I need is the "Android (Cortex-A8 with NEON)" one... I'd have to know what device you have to know which CPU/version you'd need. (Yet again, from their own site...)

Already got "Bubble" from the f-droid site, and this neat pinball game too ("Vector Pinball"), plus an app called "Battery Circle" that's kind of nice... I think they had that keyboard app too, it sounds pretty tempting now if it has arrow keys... I might try out that WiFi analyzer app, too... (I wonder if there's an Android version of NetStumbler?? I should check that out...)

Seems that "ES Task Manager" came preinstalled, although the only file explorer I see is a box with stuff sticking out of it simply labeled "Explorer".

As far as I can tell, my tablet doesn't actually /have/ a camera in it...? So I probably don't need the camera app. :-P

I wonder if there's an app version of that Google Play Store thing, and if so where to find the APK for it?

Might try looking around at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25855563 (Has links to ARMv6-only official builds of aurora/beta/nightlies, plus some unofficial "Linaro" release build, whatever a Linaro is...)

Which VLC version did you end up trying, anyways? Did the "with FPU" one work, or did you decide to go the easy route and go straight for the "without FPU" version? Because if you do have a FPU, the "with FPU" one should be faster.

Nope, no Play Store, and the only "Market" I see is something called "SlideME Market" that the browser occasionally opens when I'm trying to get apps online. (Although whatever the browser is trying to tell it to do seems to confuse it...) Though I had to check a box to install APKs also.

Also I don't see a "Superuser" app, so I don't know if it is or not...

Apparently the apps it came with preinstalled are: ApkInstaller, Books, Browser, Calendar, Clock, Downloads, E-Book, Email, ES Task Manager, Explorer, Facebook, Gallery, Global Time, Gmail, Google+, Messenger (has a g+ icon), Music, ONLINE HELP, RealCalc, Search, Settings, SlideME Market, Sound Recorder, Talk, Twitter, Video, and YouTube.

(Oh, here's the manual for what I have, most of the specs are on page 10: [PDF Link])
