The 'Lights resident barkeep sat slumped over the bar counter, staring at two half-cups of darkness beer. Nothing much different about today-- exhausting, on and off busy, nothing too terrible or that good going on. Not even a surprise ( ... )

Surprisingly enough he was lacking the scruff and longer hair he had before he left. Seems like heading home gave you a haircut, and apparently some scarring in Ace's case. No, Ace was honestly glad to be back here in Discedo. His second life.

He was damn glad Shinji offered first, though truth be told he would have ended up here at some point. He needed this, despite how well he seemed to be keeping himself together.

He tilted his head, giving the man a sheepish smile as he scratched his scalp. "Man... but I just got back, what do I have to barter?"

He sighed before his smile widened and reaching for that cup. All in fun of course. "I was kinda hoping you'd forget what I already owe ya."

He lifted the glass and held it out, grinning now, a toast? To life, to friendship, to second chances. Something like that.

"Hell if I know. You'd be surprised... people come back with useful shit sometimes.

Whatever. For now, I guess it's on the house."

Shinjiro tossed back his own glass. His shoulders relaxed at the taste of the bitter ale-- by now, he was more than used to it. He considered it a comfort. Poisonous one, maybe. He closed his eyes as the stuff numbed his throat all the way down to his stomach.

When he got his eyes open again, he shot another glance a Ace. The guy looked just fine--happy, even, though some of that could be an act. Still, it was kinda touching. Most people weren't happy to show up here again. Not that he couldn't understand why, but... this was home to him. Whatever else it was.

That toast surprised him... but after a second, he raised his own glass to clink it with Ace's.

Up until now the cook had been busy out in the back but the distant sound of voices eventually drew him out of the kitchen, steps quickening up a little once he identified who those voices actually belonged to. He had to see this for himself, the blurry video wasn't enough and you could only trust a faceless voice so much before you needed some visual aid to go with it. Even more so now, they had practically chalked him down as gone for good ( ... )
