To say that he was worried would have been an understatement, if not an outright lie. The cook was way beyond worried at this point and the only thing that kept him from really freaking out was the simple fact that there wasn't a thing they could do about it - a fact that simultaneously added to the impending freakout in some surrealistic way. Ace was probably the last one he ever wanted to see leave, the man had told him about the execution months ago and ever since that thought had been nagging at the back of the blonds head ( ... )

Just stuck here helpless was not how Luffy went about things. He was used to the take-charge-and-fight attitude, of fighting when you needed and struggling to make everything right again but... this... There was no fighting. Nothing to fight, nothing to do ( ... )

It was too fucking familiar. That was what really bothered him, underneath the crippling sense of helplessness or burning frustration - this was Water 7 all over again, only so much worse. Usopp leaving, Robin disappearing without a sound, the clan crumbling before their very eyes and right then he honestly believed that this was it, if only for a moment and only to himself. The atmosphere in the room was close to the suffocating gloom that had hovered over the Merry back then, only heavier.

The blond didn't know the details all that well, just that it would happen. Ace hadn't known either, not much, just told them the bare essentials and at the time they had been shocked silent but there was nothing they could do about it. Hell, they didn't even know the guy that well and maybe the severity of the situation didn't really sink in.

It sure as hell did now. Painfully so.

Sanji moved further into the room, closing the distance between them with a few long strides. Giving up wasn't something they did, especially not Luffy and even ( ... )

It took Luffy a moment to respond. He didn't feel here. In this apartment, with half of his nakama, and no brother. His mind just kept returning to that question, how could he still be here? None of it settled with him, no matter how many times he thought about it. There was nothing he could do here. And he hated it.

Well, there was eating, Sanji had pointed out with the thermos. Luffy hadn't touched anything since mid-afternoon on Thursday. All thoughts of sneaking in the kitchen, or even the fact that he had missed two or five meals, had left his mind the moment his brother left. He knew he needed to, but... not now. Maybe once the thought finally planted itself in his mind and left Luffy just waiting for word... maybe then.

So he replied to his nakama. "Not hungry."

Glancing away, Luffy moved the hat, shifting lower in the hammock.
