Group 1: Let's get ready for a cougar attack!kungfublackfrogJune 14 2011, 20:34:40 UTC
The trail was rather quiet; so much that Adam left the wagon after leaving the city and decided to walk like the majority of the group. He had grabbed a hatchet that was left in the survival kit and kept it by his side just in case. It was a good thing he did take a weapon with him.
He heard rusling noises from off the path and stopped moving. "Hmm?" he turned to face where the noise came from but he saw nothing. Adam turned away then moved along with the group, this time walking a little quicker.
There was that rustling noise again. This time, it was closer and Adam knew something wasn't right. He walked over to Heiji and spoke quietly, "Something's following us."
[Oh lord. It wasn't about those black figures people were seeing from the corner of their sight was it? Yeah, there was some rustles, but this was the outdoors after all.]
If yer referrin' ta th' black things everyone keeps seein'. Don't worry about it, yer just dehydrated an' exhausted. It's normal.
"I don't think that's what I've been hearing." the ranger replied and turned his head. So far, the noise has stopped and maybe Heiji was right all along. Adam sighed but still kept his guard up, rather be safe than sorry.
As they walked further, Adam heard it again and gripped his hatchet tight. "I heard it that time." he muttered and kept looking straight ahead. The noise got closer and closer, making Adam feel more threatened until his instinct started to kick in. Something was telling him to strike first and to hurry! Adam wasted no time and proceeded to give a roundhouse left kick, hoping to hit something. And he did because when his foot made impact, something YOWLED.
Adam turned and widened his eyes, seeing a now severely pissed off cougar hissing at him. "That's not a black thing." he said to Heiji.
[Predators were one of the last things he wanted to deal with on this trip. Yeah he could fend off the typical criminal, but wild animals...well he's never tried to fight one of those.]
No. It's a cougar! [He wondered if they were abundant in this area, and if they were. This was going to be a problem.
The detective tightened his grip around the hilt of his tachi blade. He had to be quick if it meant helping Adam. He took a step forward. Heiji just had to be faster than the cougar.] Ready?
Adam nodded, raising his hatchet to his waist and crouched down in a fighting stance. "We have to keep them away from the wagons." he spoke then noticed that there wasn't just one cougar, but THREE of the big cats. "This is going to go well." he deadpanned then started to sprint ahead, making the one he kicked follow him, hissing and growling.
[Heiji was ahead of you on that. Taking careful steps to draw the attention away.
Right here!
Surely enough the abundant question was answered and now there are three! Just great, and whatever the hell tactic Adam was using Heiji didn't approve.] Idiot! What're ya doin'?!
[No time to worry. His blade was set forth as he made a quick shift forward, running his blade into the nearest cougar. Like most Japanese blades, it was sharp and ran deep. It undoubtedly left damage. That didn't account for the third cougar though, and Heiji wasn't sure if he, Adam, or anyone else were safe.]
Adam let the idiot comment slide; Heiji didn't know about his time being a power ranger but he should mention it after the fight. What he was trying to do was lure the cougar away from the group so they could be safe. For now, it was working like a charm. The cougar yowled and used one of its front paws to swipe him across the chest but he ducked down and drove the hatchet into the beast. The creature yowled again and went limp, the ranger taking out the weapon then looking at the third cougar.
[Heiji drew his blade out, he didn't necessarily aim to kill, so the cougar should take the warning and leave.
The detective's glance darted around for the third one. He flipped the blade around so the hilt was out. Heiji will make a less violent approach. Where was it?
Adam scanned the area, seeing if anymore cougars decided to make themselves known. "So just the one then." he mumured then looked to where Heiji ran off to. Naturally, he followed just in case the other man needed help.
[Heiji found a rock and picked it up. He gripped it for a second before he threw it at the cougar. Surely enough it hit, and it was just enough distraction to draw it away from the wagons. Heiji flashed his blade at the cougar as a warning, but it didn't seem to be working.]

[When China heard all the commotion, he looked from behind the wagons since he was in the rear, and there was a COUGAR attacking them. He took a few steps towards the other two, but then he stopped. He should probably stay in the rear in case one of the wild cats tried to come up from behind.
When Heiji and Adam walked some distance away from the wagons, China began to check all angles. Good thing he decided to stay in the rear, because he could hear the sound of large paws hitting the ground. He was about to make a grab for his army rifle that was hanging from his shoulder on a strap, until he remembered the sword Seifer had given him back in Discedo. He grabbed it from the wagon he had left it on and swung it at the cougar, effectively slashing it in its front as it jumped at him. The front of China's uniform was tinted red.]

"Shit." Adam growled. "There's more than I thought!" he saw another couple of cougars circling around the wagons and held his hatchet tighter. One of them decided to try to lunge at Yao from behind.
YAY and sob, Heiji wasn't made for thiswestdetectiveJune 15 2011, 17:31:56 UTC
[Heiji picked up another rock and chucked it at the cougar. It seemed to be effective drawing its attention away from the wagon. The teen detective tightened his grip. If only he had a shinai, then he wouldn't have to worry about cutting it. Killing wasn't his thing, but it came down to instinct and survive and he had a responsibility to keep everyone here alive.
Without hesitation he flipped his blade back around and struck toward the cougar again.
And Adam's not wanting to use his morpher; saving the near-death thing for a greater timekungfublackfrogJune 15 2011, 18:17:11 UTC
The point was to draw the cougars away from the group and Heiji's idea of using rocks was a good idea. So Adam followed his example and grabbed one and hurled it at one of the big cats; it landed on the cougar's rear and it wasn't happy.
"Over here!" he called to it. And yep, the cougar took the taunt and ran towards the ranger, who was heading off the path. When the cougar leapt towards Adam, the man went straight down on his back and swiftly moved both legs upwards, giving the cat a double kick in the stomach and making it tumble away from the group. It was dazed for a moment before getting back on its feet and simply...stared. Adam didn't know what it was thinking so he got up with hatchet in hand and got in stance.
[China heard Adam's shout and his free hand flew to the holster on his belt that held his army knife, but he wasn't fast enough to prevent the cougar from grazing his shoulders with its claws. China hissed in pain and stabbed it in the stomach with the knife, but not deep enough, for the cougar suddenl released him and went towards Heiji and Adam.
He put the sword back on one of the wagons, for the state of his shoulders would prevent him from swinging it with much force, and took the rifle off his bleeding wounds. He held it in his hands and aimed in the direction of an oncoming cougar. As soon as he had aim, he fired, hitting it right in the face. When he couldn't see anymore coming towards the wagons, he turned and pointed his rifle at the cougar that was staring down Adam, prepared to fire if need be.]
Both animal and man stayed perfectly still, just glaring at one another to see who would strike first. Either way, one of them was going to be injured or dead. Hopefully, not the human with the hatchet. The cougar roared, trying to scare Adam out of concintrating but the ranger didn't move an inch. So much for that tactic, cat. When imtimindation didn't work, the cougar could follow up with a frontal attack, swiping a clawed paw at Adam, who dodged again but did get grazed on his right leg. He grunted before slightly staggering, moving further off the path and away from the wagons
