SYTYCD Controversy

This is why my username is disbelief...

After watching SYTYCD tonight and hearing about the upset over Mia's jacket and Wade's anti-war choreography, I did some surfing to find out more about it. I was shaking my head in disbelief at some of the comments I saw on the Fox SYTYCD boards.

I wanted to call you last night but Christy had a work emergency and was using the phones. Anyway, I dreamt about Fluevog shoes so I'm hoping that means you've received them and they fit! Tell me!

Nope, haven't arrived yet. I'll let you know the second that they do.

BTW, the money order should arrive Tuesday.

Thanks again, sweetie.

Yeah, the first I had heard of the brouhaha was when they addressed it on the show. I totally agree with your post. A) Mia's jacket was so cool, I really thought it was stylish last night. And B) Wade's routine got kind of boring after 10 repetitions, but it was not insulting or offensive in the least.

C. thought it looked like a band jacket and we didn't even notice the chevrons until we knew to look for them. Of course, we're not in the Marines.

Wade's dance was about things like unity, understanding, communication...just like what the dancers chose to put on the shirts. I didn't see any anti-Bush, anti-troops messages up their on the shirts.

I agree with you on the boring repetitions but it did help to show how each dancer had different abilities. Wonder what they'll do next week?

Wait. Can we back up. Anti-war dance routine? Huh?

That was the concept - or as they love to talk about on SYTYCD, the 'story behind the piece'. The video package showed the choreographer telling the dancers that it was about peace, an anti-war routine. He gave them a list of words as inspiration, like unity, understanding, communication, hope, etc.

All of which was apparently tremendously insulting to the posters on the SYTYCD boards (and I'm guessing there were people who called Fox). From what I could see, the basic argument was "We're at war! How rude to talk about peace! What an un-American thing to do!"

Then there was an on-air apology/explanation for it.
