Wow, you totally summed up my thoughts on Mad Men! I am loving this season so much more precisely because Don's falling apart. I've always hated how so much of the reaction to the show has been, "Don Draper is so awesome," because ugh, he's really not, he's a giant dickhead who occasionally pulls off awesome moments. Now he's just a giant drunken dickhead who can't manage those moments anymore. And yes! I love that!
And also, I would seriously watch this show only for Peggy if I had to (and sometimes it has felt like she was the only character I could stand, so I know this). That shit in the hotel was complete awesomesauce.
Don Draper was super fucking cool and that was a lot of fun to watch, but it's not like you can have years and years of storytelling about how a dude is cool. They did great things with that, and now I think it's interesting that they're telling another kind of story. Even though it's pretty shocking to see Don like that.
Peggy! So awesome! She's such an interesting character -- although, again, kind of likable but also kind of not. She seems so human, with her awkwardness and need for acknowledgement and then moments of genuine awesomeness.
