Did birthdays usually call for dressing up and looking nice? Cornelia hadn't a clue, so she didn't think to wear anything fancy or do anything to her hair. On most days she would use a straitening charm on it to take the wave out of it, but on this night she had forgotten to bother with it. No one seemed to look at her, anyway, as she was the one who normally looked at people, so she wasn't sure if anyone was really missing anything. She also briefly wondered if all boys always looked as nice as Chase did at all times

This was almost a different side of Chase that she was seeing, for she had become rather good at picking up on the small things he did, like how his expressions changed with his mood and how he carried himself when he was nervous or happy or relieved. She sensed that sigh, and somehow seemed to know it was a sigh of relief. He was so different than all the other boys that she wished she knew everything about him and the way he worked, but she wanted him to know that there was nothing short of hexing her head off that would scare her away from him
