Summary: There are things that even Fuji Syusuke, the tensai that he is, cannot answer.
Eternity is as uncertain as the sunset. Although its existence is something that we are all certain of, the reality is that it occurs at different points in time. That makes eternity a complete uncertainty. That makes people wish to die.
All that makes sense to Fuji Syusuke.
He does not wish to die. Good heavens, he knows that he still has a lot dreams to chase and people to look after. It’s not as if he would ever dream of looking after people for the rest of his life. He is more inclined to photography and the arts, thank you very much.
Yet this circumstance is an exception.
He should be at the University right now, filing a request for scholarship. He wants that scholarship badly - a full waiver of tuition and fees, free leadership training, special grants for access to sections of the library, and a whopping 25,000-dollar stipend after every term [1]. Yet he is on his sofa, seemingly lounging but actually twirling soft red curls in between his fingers, whispering words of solace.
He vaguely recalls the very reason for his unforeseen stay at his home. There was a not-so-unusual call from Eiji. The news wasn’t entirely new either. The Golden Pair broke up, had a small fight over something not entirely petty - lack of time for each other. Fuji understands very well that they are already in their senior year and it is only fitting that Oishi understand Eiji is actually busy with projects and such. After all, the said fukubuchou is also in his senior year.
This, no matter how simple, does not make sense to him.
He wants to ask Eiji why. Why does he have to hurt himself for countless times and approach Oishi to ask for forgiveness? Why does he have to be Oishi’s doubles partner? Why does he have to run to Fuji every single time he gets hurt? Why does he have to tell Fuji to not hurt Oishi in any way, be it physically or mentally?
And why… Why does Fuji have to be Eiji’s best friend?
You’re the only one I fully trust.
You won’t let me down, would you?
Fuji, I need you.
Don’t leave me, Fuji.
Fuji-
“Fuji,” a voice laced with exhaustion calls out. Hush, Fuji simply replies and places a soft kiss on the latter’s forehead. Just rest, he continues. No more is heard after that, only soft snoring. And fingers making contact with keys with numbers written on them. And a voice from the other end of the line saying, “I’m so sorry.” And Fuji’s reply that he shouldn’t come there because Eiji is resting. And an affirmation to Fuji’s reply. And a soft click that signified the end of the call.
And droplets of tears making contact with hard cement as soft sobbing filled the air.
I wish I just fell in love with you, Fuji.
Why did I have to fall for you, Eiji?
