Here's a Christian Moral Principle - Don't Assume It's Okay To Sucker People Into a Shitty Class!

PAX was amazing, but it is now over. I will be saving my full travelouge until pictures are available for posting. I do not like air travel, but I do like a metric crapload of free shit, which I obtained during the con.
Going to unleash a rant involving religion. Those with low tolerance for sacrilege would do best to not click further.
I've warned you )

You and your friends should argue counterpoints every time the teacher brings up a bit of Christian morality.

For my part, sitting there and reading the syllabus, I got the distinct impression that this was not a discussion class. In fact, that's sort of the point of the Theology 200-level classes, to be histories of various theological topics or works. A morality class, by definition, takes a position on whatever topics come up, and I noted EUTHANASIA was on that list. If this were like the Morality class I had in high school, an exercise in debate and careful consideration of many topics (most notable in my memory, the morality of the Hiroshima bombing), I would be willing to endure a class I didn't necessarily ask for in the spirit of learning a thing or two, or at least analyzing some topics. However, as James mentions above about the Jewish law statement, it was clearly stated that we were to come to an understanding, not of WHETHER, but of HOW this was true. This course wants to present some very controversial opinions as objective truths, and not even so well as to call them the beliefs held by a group of people, but truths in FACT. I ( ... )

I absolutely loved Marty's "Wish You Were Here." It's funny that I, as a wannabe bassist, and Gary, INXS's bassist, both find deep and personal resonance in that song. It's a crime he was in the bottom three last night. Jordis was pretty good, but I didn't vote for her. My votes went to Ty (for my brother; he really liked his performance), Marty and Suzie. I have been amazingly impressed by Suzie's growth. I would give her the "Most Improved" award in a heartbeat.
On the negative side, J.D.'s vocal limitations are showing with this small of a pool, but he's got amazing charisma. And MiG annoyed me by singing through the instrumental breaks of "Live and Let Die". It's one of my pet peeves.
As for this class, I think Paul's suffered through some of the chicanery. I can't be sure of that. Joe knows the history of this bullshit better than I.
And I'll have you know that it was your post that moved me to donate. Sometimes these things have to be made personal to spur us to action. Thank you.

The recurring craptasm (Derivative of phantasm or orgasm? You decide) that this course has become evidently began several years ago when the teacher who taught this course retired. Evidently he was an elderly priest (at least by the end of his time at SLU), but I don't know his name nor did I ever meet him, so I cannot be certain. However, he used to teach it regularly, and it was his course every year. Naturally, it was a big draw for a lot of students trying to avoid New Testament or Morality, for instance ( ... )

I'm glad I'm not the only one reading paranoid conspiracy theories into this whole situation. And I agree - it would take a massive, and I do mean massive, bribe to forget and forgive this offense.
