Here's a Christian Moral Principle - Don't Assume It's Okay To Sucker People Into a Shitty Class!

PAX was amazing, but it is now over. I will be saving my full travelouge until pictures are available for posting. I do not like air travel, but I do like a metric crapload of free shit, which I obtained during the con.
Going to unleash a rant involving religion. Those with low tolerance for sacrilege would do best to not click further.
I've warned you )

The recurring craptasm (Derivative of phantasm or orgasm? You decide) that this course has become evidently began several years ago when the teacher who taught this course retired. Evidently he was an elderly priest (at least by the end of his time at SLU), but I don't know his name nor did I ever meet him, so I cannot be certain. However, he used to teach it regularly, and it was his course every year. Naturally, it was a big draw for a lot of students trying to avoid New Testament or Morality, for instance.

However, despite the fact that it has not been taught since he retired, it has been offered every year since then, at least around registration time. Then one of two things have happened. It would be canceled before registration began, or it would be (very obnoxiously, for students' schedules) canceled not so soon before the end of the summer. The latter happened to Paul last year, or so he tells me.

These past problems struck me as a legitimate (though failed) attempt by the department to put the course together with a new teacher, and it seemed that they were simply unable to do so. However, now they have apparently picked up on the fact that people WILL sign up for it, en masse. And as much as I don't want to think that they were deliberately trying to con students into a class they don't want, the evidence is highly suspicious, and suggestive of a crapload or BS. Most damning is that, instead of just admitting that the class has been changed to accommodate an inability to put the promised course together, and as a mercy to students who would be SOL on their scheduling, the teacher claimed that THEO 260 has ALWAYS been the designation for the Morality course, which is an utter fabrication. Look up in any handbook, not just the course listings, but the official, PRINTED handbook for SLU, and check the course description index toward the back. THEO 260 has always been Evil and Demonic in the Christian Tradition, even if it was not being offered in one particular year. They are trying to pass it off on a computer error in Banner.

Frankly, that steams me the most. SLU institutes the cheapest available version of a crap software that cannot accommodate the needs of students and faculty, and now gets to blame any problems or shady dealin's on that inferior system. Apparently lowering your standards admits you to further failures that had not been problems beforehand.

So, I'm basically pissed off at "the system" and "the man" right now, and nothing except a large, condition-free grant of MONEY will sway me. Hear that SLU? I'm on to you...
