Aw honey, that's craptastic, I'm sorry. I think your vet is on the expensive side though. In addition, you may be able to do something about this at home. When I worked at the shelter I gave a few dogs enemas, so a home cat enema might just be doable. That's if you think your Ed can handle you doing that to him.
Well, truthfully, I don't know that *I* could handle doing that to him. He's kinda used to vets poking around his butt. I don't go near it. Plus, I dont have the facility to er...deal with the aftermath...or to CLEAN him after. So the enema at $33 isn't so much a problem for me. It's the $46 visit, the $100 ex-rays...the $25 fluids, the observation money...the lab work money...all the other crap.
Pshaw, you know he gets constipated, so a really good vet will teach you how to palpitate the intestine to feel if he has a blockage which you can deal with on your own. Once you know, then a tub and a saline / mineral oil enema kit, a kitty-sized nozzle and some pet shampoo and I bet you could save all the money they're charging for taking him in, having them go over him, etc.
How bout I just call you, and promise to make you a nice vegan friendly dinner + remind you that you are saving a kitties world (*hint-hint - you'd be Ed's hero, and mine) in hopes that you'll help?
