after our crash-and-burn standard run last weekend, I decided Stel was up or overdue for some RDW rehab work yesterday... I haven't made one of these running contacts vids in a long time, so it was interesting for me to see up close where she is at. She always managed to get a hind foot or two in, but really mostly gave me solid running contacts ( Read more... )

bees, rdw, brushing up on contacts, stella, flies, international skills, stress, good dog stella, backyard practice

I get "This vid is private" for the running contacts one. The others look fun tho.
Do you ever train with a ball or toy for Stel? When she's not really powering through that first jump, I wonder if maybe the promise of a soccer ball would give her some added Oomph!

the running vid is fixed now--thanks--and its with a ball... and you are right, she likes her soccer ball and it definitely is good for things like the DW AF and Weaves... but I am having a hard enough time figuring out what my hands are supposed to be doing in relation to my upper body and feet and all, to have to hold a soccer ball too? well... but I certainly will get out one of her fave tug toys next time to help her enthusiasm... yep.

I think the soccer ball will help with her tunnel drive too... high on my To Do list now.

Oh, I totally hear you on not knowing what to do with your hands, body, etc.
SO DO IT ALONE!!!

I tried some of it with phantom dog first, then add in "real" dog when I think I've got my moves down.

Like Rumble with weave entries. I certainly NEED to have a toy to throw or he's just going to curve back into me (no-no...) so I was FINE with it when I could throw it with my right hand. But on the opposite side the placement was better if I threw w/ my left, but... as you can guess, the ball wasn't going where I wanted. It helped to lean down a bit before the throw.

I'm going to take that ball to the fun run this weekend to see if I can get more ooomph out of him in that environment. Wish me luck. If bad luck follows me, I'm going to be spending my 2 min on course chasing a ball all over the place!

Stella looks great on the dog walk. Were you able to stabilize it again?
Those MEB exercises are really hard. We've done some of those in class, too.

No one in the class handled it in the same way. It was cool.

I think RDWs need refreshing now and then. and she refreshes pretty quick.
This summer I expect setbacks as I work on harder exits/turns... I also hope to inspire Stella to love swimming this year, tragedy she doesn't like to play in the water...
