Sucked tits, what a racket, hid at the bar

I thought I was going to enjoy the Swans gig. I had a couple of their albums many years ago and enjoyed listening to them and foolishly thought this would bear some resemblance to the live experience. But I forgot one key thing: when you're listening to something at home you can change the volume and skip the tracks that resemble aircraft noise ( Read more... )

This is kind of how I feel about the Swans too. They have some really beautiful songs hidden among stuff that you would fall asleep to if it wasn't so goddamn loud. Like
Love Will Tear Us Apart (Jarboe vocal).

*laugh* The other review of this gig on my friends page says it was the gig of the year (and this is from someone who probably goes to a hundred gigs in a year).

Mind you the thought of music that sounds nice makes me want to pull my ears off. Mmmm... nice!

Who said it was gig of the year? Anyone I know? I suppose the one good thing is that it wasn't boring and it has got people talking and posting to LJ.

Ah, have met Adam a couple of times. Interesting review. I see he's, er, a fan. Hmmm.

Too bad Cheryl and Nadine are now frenemies. It's looking very unlikely they'll record again together.

I know. The next Girls Aloud gig will probably be their reunion in ten years time.

Swans are one of a large group of bands who are simply cool to like, for some reason, but who are largely fucking wank in real life.

But they actually are good on record, so they must have some talent. I think they just try too hard to make their gigs really "different" and in the process make them, as you put it, largely fucking wank.

Well yeah that's what I meant about "real life". Like Underworld, really

I have never seen Underworld live and have no desire to. I think they have made two brilliant songs and 3716029368206 songs that would be suitable lift music.

The famous 'Brown Note'! Glad to hear they're still at it! (although I wouldn't really want to be there myself TBH)
