I thought I was going to enjoy the Swans gig. I had a couple of their albums many years ago and enjoyed listening to them and foolishly thought this would bear some resemblance to the live experience. But I forgot one key thing: when you're listening to something at home you can change the volume and skip the tracks that resemble aircraft noise

Swans are one of a large group of bands who are simply cool to like, for some reason, but who are largely fucking wank in real life.

But they actually are good on record, so they must have some talent. I think they just try too hard to make their gigs really "different" and in the process make them, as you put it, largely fucking wank.

I have never seen Underworld live and have no desire to. I think they have made two brilliant songs and 3716029368206 songs that would be suitable lift music.
