of course its built on Jesus. without Him there is no church. but He also said "I will build My church and the gates of Hades will not prevail against my church", which is of course the body of believers. Furthermore, Paul says that the church is the pillar and ground of the truth and that we are to keep the traditions whether written or oral, therefore we can conclude that the traditions are important. they do not detract from Jesus at all but rather point us squarely to Him as He revealed Himself to be. if my relationship with Jesus is based upon a faulty interpretation of Him brought about by a change in traditions then i cant know Him as well as if i knew Him as He truly is. For instance, if someone thought i was a black, liberal Hindu they couldnt know the real me bc they have misconceptions about me, and the same goes for God. Abandon His church? Just as He did the world. Free will has hindered our ability to be perfect in Him. The Bible is truth. The ONLY truth. I have a problem with the way you have jumped into this friend. Your search for truth has led to an unfounded search for church. I'm sure that all Christians would love to be unitied in speech and in truth. But until we all let go of our pride, we will divide. All churches need to realize that they are not perfect; accept that traditions can be misinterpreted as they're passed down; that sin keeps EVERYONE from the glory of God. None of us hold absolute truth. None.
Titus 1:7-9 reads "For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate; Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers". Clearly, clergy are chosen as successors of the apostles (many apostles were clergy themselves) in order to faithfully pass the church from generation to generation. God is active in His church. all this talk about man being imperfect and thus the beliefs must be imperfect completely rules out GOD. did not Jesus say He'd be with us ALWAYS? was not the Holy Spirit sent to guide believers into ALL truth? how can you possibly say theres no absolute truth out there when Jesus and the Holy Spirit are promised to be with us, guiding us
