alright so its 3 responses, my but i am longwinded.
perhaps we should all take a cue from the Ethiopian Eunuch:
Acts 8:30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? 31And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.
he didnt trust himself to know the truths of something he didnt write. he looked for guidance from one who had been taught the truth. if only we were all so wise as the Eunuch (who wasnt even Christian yet), myself included.
let me do a little illustration here: say we have a group of believers who have beliefs A,B,C,D, and E. over time, however, certain ppl within the group change belief E to belief F, which is incompatible with beliefe E. are these two groups the same body of believers anymore? obviously they are not. if we listen to Paul then the second group are heretics. now some might say "but belief E and F are inconsequential". well how about if E and F refer to how one can be saved? inconsequential? hardly. Salvation according to the Orthodox is E, to the Catholic its F, to some Protestants its G, to others its H, others its I, and so on and so on. i sure see a problem here.
an unfounded search for church, the true body of believers? i cant see how such a statement is compatible with Holy Scriptures, or Church history.
