My whole Dresden tag is full of Photobucket pictures so I want to fill it with new ones. Last July we took a walk down to Blasewitz (with the Blue Wonder steel bridge) and Wachwitz (with the TV tower ( Read more... )

*sigh* I'd love to go up the TV tower again (even though I'm really afraid of heights). I can only very dimly remember that time I visited it (transparent sun visors were cool at the time).

Oh yeah I remember those sun visors! Did they even do much against the sun? Maybe the dark green ones but not the yellow ones. How did I ever cope without sunglasses at the time?

Oh, good question! I can't remember if they were very effective.

Dresden looks like a pretty place.

The town I live in is flood prone too, due to the river running through the middle. The last big flood here was in 1991.

This is only a part of Dresden, a bit outside of the city. Those all used to be small villages that later got swallowed when the city extended, but it is lovely there.

Just to show what the inner baroque city looks like. We have steamboats! https://tu-dresden.de/ressourcen/bilder/buehne/Dresden_silhouette_Anja_Upmeier_960x540.jpg/@@images/5b80f98d-d390-412d-b677-27c3c0d21a4d.jpeg

Yes, to have a river is beautiful, especially when you can walk at its banks or even bath in it, but then there are the downsides. I hope your city took the right precautions so that this won't happen again.
What was so scary about ours that it came through the backdoor. Not the big river, but small streams getting huge overnight.

I wasn't living here when they had the big flood, but the last few times the river has flooded it hasn't gotten anywhere near as high, so hopefully it will stay that way!

Yes, hopefully! Some people lost everything, all memories from their lives, it is awful.

Dresden does look nice. It would nice if they could open the tower again, be something of a tourist attraction and good for the locals to enjoy too.

Yes, I bet it would be a great tourist attraction but nowadays it all has to be about the money and they say there would be not enough coming for what it will cost. People want it and fight for it though, so fingers crossed!

Once a year they do a big steamboat parade, all going along the river one after the other, with music on board and when they return there is fireworks.

These pictures are gorgeous and I am now very very much wishing for spring to arrive... (Not bloody likely, we're supposed to get snow next week. *sigh*)

Thank you! Yes, it's been freezing here as well (way below zero) and I hear it's supposed to get even colder? I actually wouldn't mind to have some beautiful snow, we only had it once so far, snowed in the morning and thawed away at afternoon already.
