Locations: Grand Budapest Hotel part 2

Part 1 was here

Can we talk about the new LJ likes for a moment? I keep getting notifications "Someone likes your entry". Not telling me who this someone is. So, if you like my entry, feel free to hit the like button, but I can't see anything from it. Nor do I have access to any likes lists, as I still use the old LJ version and don't plan to ( Read more... )

hamsterwoman with you I'd go to the museum that has lots of old science instruments,

That's right! Very much my sort of place :)

And, same about likes -- I've gotten one or two, and, like... it could at least tell me WHO liked my entry? Surely LJ knows and could tell me at least that!

I know you well ;) I found an English Wikipedia entry on the Mathematisch-Physikalischer Salon: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mathematisch-Physikalischer_Salon

Not many pictures but it should give you an idea. There's globes, there's clockworks, there's telescopes, that sort of thing. Some probably just made to look nice without being ever used.

Yeah, it looks as if LJ hasn't thought that likes thing through. Maybe it is different if you have the new layout and access to your list, but I don't want to change. I like the old layout and intend of keeping it for as long as possible.

I was 15 when my brother (who lived then in Kadaň close to the borders with DDR) took me to Dresden by his Trabant car. I wanted to see the gallery, Fra Angelico and Raffael and oh, it was so beautiful...

Oh yeah! It's really weird that, when living in Dresden, for some reason you only go to the museums when you have friends visiting. My new Year's resolution is doing it more this year, just for myself, having fun. There is all this nice stuff and you barely appreciate it, being so busy always with work.

I also plan to go to the theatre and see musicals more. I always say "If I lived in London I would go see a musical every evening" but again, we do have so many theatres and other cultural things here, you just need to make an effort to actually go there! (and have the money for tickets of course)

Very familiar location, the Zwinger. And I had the best tour guide. :-)

There are likes on LJ now? I'm not sure they were needed.

Beautiful castle and, once you've seen it, easily recognisable. I haven't seen either The Grand Budapest Hotel or Cinderella though. I'll look for the palace if I do :)
