Cary Grant is on my shitlist. My computer Cary Grant, that is. This evening it began making an unhappy fried buzzing sound, like something is clicking out of gear. it continued to work normally for a while and then got slower, finally refusing to respond to anything. To me, it sounds like your main logic board is failing. This is a hardware component in the machine that contains the processor, graphics card, I/O controller, USB and firewire ports and blah blah blah. Main logic board failure happens, and it probably wasnt something you did. Unless you spilled Bailey's, or your martini on your computer, or dropped it into a deep abbys, then its just caused by normal wear and tear. The main logic board in a portable computer fails sometimes, mainly due to heat, and extensive use. And it also is not a defect in the product. If main logic board failure were a defect in the machine, then I would be getting many more of these cases at my genius bar. This type of hardware issue is rather rare, but it does happen here and there ( ... )

Roman--thank you so much for your help thus far. I'm sorry I couldn't get back to you earlier, but I've been busy with the start of classes and with trying to back up my data.
