I was just in the restroom at work where I ran into a friend whom I've known for a while. After the initial how-do-you-do-haven't-seen-you-in-so-long, she suddenly lowers her voice to a whisper and says "I heard you're going to medschool and, well, I have a really bad rash you know where, can you help me?"

The *other* price you pay for going to medschool. Enormo tuition bills just aren't enough, I guess.

Heh. Muni bus drivers don't get that sort of thing! Since everyone has seen the way we drive. Or they are on MY bus and witnessing how I drive (and crossing themselves and stuff). Or we are at Ebisu, and after a few rounds, I'm volunteering to drive them home, in the bus I parked outside.

But I do get asked driving directions. To the freeway. While driving a bus that can get a whole 14 feet from the wires (OK, I can get further, but with not good repercussions).

Which is why my dad always instructed me to never introduce myself as Dr. So-and-So in any non-academic setting. I really don't want to hear about people's rashes and warts.
