We just returned from an incredibly intense trip up to the Westfjords area of Iceland.

( A Saga-length post, which I suppose is quite fitting for Iceland )

Can you just remind me...you hike for fun...? Glad you both made it out ok

Alan Bennett once said that the British had a gift for retroactively enjoying things, that they do stuff which is clearly ghastly while it's happening at which they look back cheerfully as having been a fun and positive experience. Will this be such an experience at which you (and Canyonwren, with her bruised bum) will look back and laugh?

Yeah, we kept trying to get someone to confirm whether they thought this was particularly unusual. Some folks thought the storm was quite bad, others just shrugged and said 'yes, it´s a little bad' but no big deal.
