08: Forgiveness
It was never hard to forgive Alice. Especially when she cried. So when everything came out about her and Frank, she cried and he held her and they quietly made up.
Granted, it was only after she came home that everything was laid out.
Delia in Sacramento forgot about him. Frank across town seduced his own wife. Alice and Gene held each other.
He wondered if he was as easy to forgive.
“Why don’t you love me anymore?”
Words that rang in his head. Eyes that reminded him of older, happier times. Eyes that reminded him of Molly.
By all rights, she should have left him as soon as she found out about Sacramento. By all rights, she should be out of love with him. But she wasn’t. She was so innately his by now that neither of them knew what they’d do otherwise.
She cried herself out and leaned on him and he touched her mind.
