Summary: Another exercise in futility brought to you by Victor Stein.

Victor listened to his own aggravated heartbeat and wondered if the girl behind the counter was innocent enough to feed the Gibborim. She didn’t look it, with her overly made up eyes and bright red mouth. Not to mention the shirt that rode so low in the front he was surprised she didn’t pop out.

Not that she had much up top, anyway…

It was bad enough that the only gift wrapper in the store was in the lingerie department. She didn’t have to be a pouty teenager who couldn’t do the job right the first time.

"Is that okay?" she snapped, thrusting the poorly wrapped package at him.

Creases and wrinkles mottled the paper. The girl had spelled Janet’s name wrong for the fifth time in a row. He rubbed his temple and held back his anger.

"No. It is not okay. It is shoddy at best. Why don’t you just let me do it."

"Just because you’re never happy, doesn’t mean I should lose my job by letting you behind the counter."

"I could do a better job from where I’m standing!" Victor growled. "A drunken elephant with epilepsy at a rave could do better that that!"

"Well what do you want me to do about it?"

"I want you to call your manager or do it right."

She snorted and picked up the phone. Victor sighed again. This was shaping up to be a very long night.
