Summary: After the fall of the Steins.
Victor’s only coherent thought for a good while after hitting the ground was, ‘Damn, those Minorus just had to freeze her before they got us down.’
Janet was somewhere in the vicinity of unconscious to his right. He dragged his brain back into working order and knelt over her.
"Jan? Janet, wake up."
When she didn’t respond, he shook her a little.
"Jan. Baby. Wake up."
She groaned and batted his hand away. "Lemme be. My head hurts."
"Yes. Because you hit it."
He pulled her into a sitting position and let the idiots war with their children. His wasn’t there. They didn’t need him.
"Where’s Chase?" she groaned.
"He’s not here."
She had a good sized lump on her head. It was turning purple. He touched it lightly. She moaned in protest and pulled away.
"It’s okay, Jan."
He pulled her to her feet, steadied her a bit. The Leapfrog crashed through the wall, knocking them both off balance.
"Leapfrog!"
"Chase!"
She started toward the Leapfrog. He pulled her back.
"No, Janet!"
She let out a rough sob and watched her son destroy the Vivarium.
