Wilder didn’t trust them as far as he could throw them, Victor deduced.
He wasn’t sure if it was the cold looks or the clipped speech that tipped him off.
Janet passed the soul over to Catharine. Geoffrey was standing behind her.
Victor had an odd feeling. It wasn’t one he had often, but he usually trusted his odd feelings. This one was sending him to stand behind Janet.
He made it up the stairs in a few strides and very pointedly filled the empty space behind her. Geoffrey glared at him. Catharine looked uncomfortable. Janet quelled a smirk.
Damned he’d be if he let his Janet get hurt.
