046: Laughter

Some girl he’d gone to school with giggled and leaned over the counter, displaying the general use for her low-cut shirt. He virtuously looked away and thought of Catharine.

There was no one else in the store. He wished very thoroughly that she would leave. This was not how he wanted to spend his evening. This was certainly not someone he wanted to spend his evening with. She’d aggravated him in school, she aggravated him now. But she stayed, persistent.

“So when do you get off?” she simpered.

Geoffrey sighed. He hated simpering. “When my girlfriend yanks on it.”

That brought her up short. “Girlfriend? You?”

Geoffrey stared at her blandly.

“I bet I could do better,” she offered.

“I bet you couldn’t.”

“Oh, come on,” she whined. “Let me try!”

“Okay. I’ll let you try. When pigs fly, hell freezes over, and the Pacific ocean dries up.”

She gasped, offended, then turned and stormed out of the store, leaving Geoffrey with a hint of peace.
