Yesterday was Sunday. In every civilized country on Earth, that means that workers take a day of well-deserved rest.

But not Japan. Yesterday I had to work. Of course, it wasn't real work. They sent me out to a park with some of the kids and we spent a few hours picking up trash. Down by the river. It was actually an amusing diversion. Especially

That's interesting, considering all that jazz we had to go through about transitioning Japan to a five-day work week in senior Japanese. Do you usually have to work Sunday?

This is the first time I've worked on a Sunday. But I'm required to work on Saturdays (for special things) once every few months or so.

Wha? Do you really have to wear a suit?

Only because it was a "demonstration lesson." Parents came to watch. Most days I wear something similar to a track suit. That's what all the teachers wear.
