An Empty Gesture

I don't know the name she was born with. "Abbey," was printed largely across the center of her name-tag, but that was not really her name. Her real name was written on the name-tag also; on a small paper lable in the corner in tiny Korean letters. Being that I was unable to decipher it, I was forced to use Abbey. I wondered if she recognized the ( Read more... )

That's a shame that none of the other staff were picking up on this. This could've been one of the other differences between American and Korean teaching styles. Or maybe just your own practice. Gotta have room for empathy in teaching.

I still think school is set up with too many kids competeing for the attention of a teacher. It'd be great if the ratio were one on one but like one teacher to five students max is what I would allow in my world where education is ideal.
