Cheap shots at my betters

Interesting juxtaposition:Bush did apparently reiterate the firmness of the June 30 handover of sovereignty to Iraqis and likened it to riding a bicycle.

"He talked about 'time to take the training wheels off,' " Rep. Deborah Pryce (Ohio) said. "The Iraqi people have been in training, and now it's time for them to take the bike and go forward."

*snicker*

Maybe it was a BUI related incident.

I suspect he wasn't paying attention to the trail because he was too busy talking to God.

Well, all I can say is that both Bush and Kerry are better at biking than I am. When I fell off my bike about three years ago, I took seven stitches in my palm. And then a week later intravenous antibiotics. I actually sliced open an artery. Not a lot of fun. I guess old folks just shouldn't ride bikes. I haven't tried any nation building lately. I'm kinda bogged down in church building. I think (maybe) it's a little safer, but it may be just as difficult.

One question: why was Bush wearing a mouth guard? I have never seen anyone wearing a mouth guard biking. is there any way we can get him to wear it all the time so we don't have to go to war over lies?

I think that to some extent a politician's fortunes rise and fall with his teeth, so I can understand why Bush would wear a mouthguard. Certainly were he to knock out a front tooth, the resemblance to Alfred E. Neumann would be catastrophic.

I wear a mouthguard on my bike when I'm wearing my normal helmet. Don't bother when I'm wearing my full facer.

Great compilation of quotes.

Given the fact that President Bartlett was injured in a bicycle crash in the pilot for West Wing, I'm thinking that presidents and presidential candidates should just stay the heck off of bikes.

Thank you!

rahael was telling me about that episode of The West Wing just after I posted. Somehow, I don't think Teddy Roosevelt had this problem.

Or maybe TR lived in a time when we didn't know or care about what the president had for breakfast and whether it resulted in a satisfactory BM.

I hate the media almost as much as I hate Bush--and this from a former reporter.

But if the White House is going to come out and blame the fall on “what the White House described as soil loosened by recent rainfall”… (Here’s the quote: “It’s been raining a lot. The topsoil was loose.”)

Well, I can check that. There hasn’t been any rain in Crawford all week. The last day with more than an inch of precipitation was May 1.

Again, not a big deal, but why would they say that? And do you share my suspicion that Caren Bohan, who wrote the Reuters report from Crawford, knows perfectly well that there wasn’t any rain?

=====================
Simple: They've told so many lies they either 1) are in the habit or 2) they can't recognize the truth anymore or 3) everything Bush does is so embarassing they have to put a positive spin on it

Too bad he wore a mouth guard. Maybe a few scrapes would have kept him from those 'speeches' for a while. Does the man not know how to read?
