About more Gray Ark translations

Apr 14, 2009 22:35

Sorry for bringing up an old topic, but I was wondering whether the talks with Hoshino and her editors in the book had been translated anywhere. If not, I'd like to try and maybe do a rough summary of it and type up a transcript (so that pro translators can correct me).  There's some stuff that would officially answer some of the more trivial ( Read more... )

!question, fanbook

I haven't seen it anywhere, but I'd love to read the translations!

Supposedly there are several meanings behind the title D. Gray-man.

I heard somewhere that Hoshino said in an interview that the "D." stands for 'dolls', then 'gray' is a mix of white and black (i.e. good and evil) ...erm and then to sum it up it would be something like man are like dolls of fate who are constantly fighting the battle of good vs. evil.

But a friend of mine says that the title comes from Dorian Gray because the Millenium Earl resembles him (having a long life and uhh... constant sinning? XD)

But yeah, it would be nice to get a translation to verify that and find out more stuff :3

Have you looked around mangahelpers.com? I don't really know how much has been translated, but if any's been done, it would likely be there.

I didn't find the interviews that enlightening as pertaining to canon info though :/ Most of it seemed to be about DGM's creation process and how Hoshino didn't get along with her editor...

edit: and on a total total tangent, it always really bugs me that she has Kanda wearing Chinese-style collars and changshan and stuff rather than anything remotely Japanese :( *would like to see him in hakama!!*

Yeah, I was kinda of wondering about that too...
If he is Japanese, I feel like Japanese clothing really only makes sense, but whatever.
It's probably just because she likes drawing more Chinese style clothing more lol.

Mangahelpers only has translations of the character profiles as far as I'm aware. And you're right about there not being much (if any?) canon info in the interviews, but I still think it would be fun to post stuff about Hoshino and the behind-the-scenes talks.

Was it Mr.N the editor you're talking about btw? I haven't really gotten too in-depth with my efforts yet.

I did find it strange that he doesn't wear Japanese clothes, but it could be because his homeland is infested with Akuma and they can't really export anything from there. That, and maybe he had been living in China, because of the above, and is used to Chinese-esque clothes? Ah, speculation~

No, the one she didn't get along with is Yoshida, her original DGM editor. XD The first part of the interview focuses on that a lot. (I remember this vividly because it cracked me up that apparently she originally based Komui off Yoshida because he was originally going to be a "mean and unlikable" kind of character. 8D; That changed, though, so now they only resemble each other in appearance.)

I would love to read it if it was translated. I haven't seen a translation anywhere either.

Wow, I would totally love it if you could do that!!

I can't read any Japanese, so even though I have looked at scans for it... Well, basically, I would love to know what's going on!!

And I noticed that Kanda has been wearing a lot more Asian style clothes lately, I think it is kind of funny that she only decided to bring it up now!!
