The Joy of Baking

Mar 05, 2011 14:55

[Its been quite awhile since Miranda has made anything complicated in the kitchen and was in a bright enough mood to try something new. She wanted to try making tarts, she's always wanted to try making tarts... But apparently it was a little tougher than she had first thought ( Read more... )

[Don't mind Link. He's just idling somewhere behind her, watching as she stares into the stove.]

Miss Lotto, I do believe it will not go anywhere. You may take your eyes off of it for now.

No thank you.

[He'll return to her recipe book and leaf through a few pages, careful to keep his finger down so her place isn't lost.]

Are you cooking for someone or is this just the result of boredom?

I-I was just in the mood I guess... I wanted to try something new...

I see.

[Link thinks that's a fine reason.]

I'm sure you will find no lack of willing individuals to sample your work.

I'm my own taste tester now. Before I knew what I was doing, I could make Allen vomit.

[Wow, that's really saying something. Just... this look.]

If it's any consolation, your tarts appeared to be normal.

They looked normal...

[She eyes the fridge, already thinking of the thousands of things that could be wrong with them.]

You should sit down, Miss Lotto. Worrying will change nothing.

[But then he remembers who he's talking to... Maybe a distraction is in order.]

Has Colin been doing well?

Oh, Yes!

[She suddenly looks down at her feet, but then bends down to look under the table. Colin's curled up underneath the chair Link is now sitting in.]

There he is. He's gotten bored with me cooking...

[The dog looks a bit sleepy, sitting around and waiting while being assaulted by random smells is tiring.]

[He leans back in his seat, peering beneath it to give the dog a curious glance. He's not a big fan of pets, but Colin's all right in his book.]

So it seems. Have you been spoiling him since his return?

I have. So much so that he's started to run from me when I want to try out a new sweater on him.

[He'll eventually do it, but he's got that 'enough...' face.

Soon the kettle clicks and Miranda sets it on a tray with tea cups, a jar of sugar, and a small packet of various teas for Link to choose what he wants.]

Do you need cream?...

churchninja March 6 2011, 23:15:11 UTC
Yes, please, but allow me to help set things up.

[He doesn't like having someone else do everything. Gingerly-because he's worried he'll scoot his chair over Colin-he pushes his chair back and moves to stand, making sure her book is left open on the correct page.]

[Miranda's already got the tray half way to him before he stands, then she simply passes it off to him and goes to get the cream from the fridge. After getting it she simply sets it down on the table... Then goes to one of the upper cupboards to pull out a small box of biscit cookies to nibble on while they have their tea. Why not?

Colin doesn't even move from his spot, he just lifts his head to watch Link.]

[He's left awkwardly holding the tray as she bustles about the kitchen. Carefully, he settles it on the table with a soft clack and takes his seat again, once more wary of where he sticks his feet for Colin's sake.]

You needn't go through all of this trouble, Miss Lotto. I'm aware you've been busy for some time today.

No, Link. I want to do this.

[She sits down on a chair across from him as she opens the box of cookies and sets it down on the table.]

I'm thankful for your concern, but its not needed.

Very well.

[If she really wishes to, refusing would be rude. Just so he has something to do, he busies himself with setting out their teacups.]

I must admit, it has been some time since I last had proper tea.
