Well, from what I know of rabbits, they're good pets for kids. I wouldn't generally recommend a ferret for a three year old unless you get it from someone who's worked with it long enough to know its personality and know that it's fully trained. If you're interested in a ferret, though, check out rescues. They're normally a little older but ferrets mellow out with age and the people at rescues can tell you anything you need to know about each individual animal.
