I read the Southern Vampire Mysteries a couple of years ago, a long time before the show started...so for me it was very strange comparing the show to the first book. I thought there were MANY major differences...so much stuff in the series that wasn't in the book AT ALL. Remember that the first season of the show is only supposed to reflect the first book - so much of that stuff, several entire storylines, were not in there. It's a great series, though; I hope the show can continue long enough to get into all the crazy things that happen in the later installments!
Yeah, I am to the point now where a lot of stuff that happened in the show isn't in the books. I'm okay with that, but the book is kind of hard for me to stay interested. I hope I'll like the second & later ones better, since I haven't 'seen' them yet!
One of the things that I like about the Sookie books is how each one is a little bit better then the one previous to it. Plus Harris gets better writing with each book too.
Have you gotten to read about Bubba yet? I think he's my favorite character and he was totally written out of the series.
Oh, this is good to know! I'm not so into this book, but I think that's because I saw the series first.
I haven't gotten to Bubba yet. You say he's been written out of the series...do you mean the book series, or the tv series? Because the tv series hasn't gone past book 1 yet (at least, I don't think it has), and I haven't come across Bubba in the first book. Yet.
Bubba shows up towards the end of the first book, but he isn't in the first season of Tru Blood at all. I'm still holding out hope that they bring him into some of the later seasons. (And no, they haven't gone past book 1 in the series other then the cliff hanger in the season finally, that was the beginning of book 2. I believe they are planning to do a book a season.)
It is definitely nice reading the later books solely because the story is more of a mystery. At least though with the first book the end is changed up a little for the TV show.

I never saw Trueblood, but the first season dvd will be out later this year. I DID buy the package of books 1-7 and I DEVOURED them, I have book 8 waiting on my stack of books to read. My fave was book #3, wait till you get to that one! I had thought about getting a kindle, but I really really like my bookshelves and i think i would be sad to not make any new deposits there. I just got into another series by Patricia Briggs about a sort of shapeshifter named Mercy who owns her own auto shop and lives among wereolves and vampires...

Yeah, part of my reason for getting a kindle was because I don't really have room for much more furniture, and I'll keep my physical book collection to a minimum.
I've never heard of this last series you speak of, or the author. Sounds like my kind of book, though! Are you on GoodReads?

I think the Kindle is pretty amazing, for sure.
